High visibility digital display vehicle used for the start of the motorbike season |

Good afternoon, North Yorkshire is gearing up for the start of the motorbike season, and over the coming weeks the county is expected to see a significant increase in riders heading out to enjoy the stunning scenery here on the 6000 miles of road. For the first time, a dedicated high visibility digital display truck was deployed today (29 March 2026) to deliver key road safety messages to motorcyclists and other road users. The vehicle played a prominent part during the Squires Egg Run from Squires Café near Selby to Pickering, with more than 400 riders taking part. Driving the route, the truck displayed clear, timely reminders about safe riding, pre ride checks and the shared responsibility all road users have in keeping each other safe. Its purpose is simple: to provide a visible, proactive reminder of the importance of road safety at the very start of the season. Our York and North Yorkshire Road Safety partnership trailer, police motorbikes, cars and the new digital display truck was visible throughout the day. We’re here to support riders, share advice and help make North Yorkshire’s roads safer for everyone. Key statistics: • Motorcyclists are disproportionately represented in road KSIs (killed and seriously injured) and in 2024, 340 motorcyclists were killed in Great Britain, whilst 5,468 were reported to be seriously injured and 10,152 slightly injured. • Between 2020 and 2024, 92% of motorcycle casualties were male and 8% female. There are 12 times more male than female motorcycle casualties overall. • Between 2020 and 2024, 69% of motorcycle fatalities occurred on roads in rural areas. The day was staffed by North Yorkshire Police’s dedicated Road Safety Team who are working alongside the biking community to reduce collisions, protect lives, and make North Yorkshire’s roads safer for everyone. Today also marked the Road Policing Inspector's last day at NYP after 30 years of policing. So Clive was given the privilege of the best bike! Clive thank you for everything you will be missed! Speaking earlier his week Inspector Clive Turner, of North Yorkshire Police’s Roads Policing Group, said: “The start of the biking season is always an exciting time, but sadly it’s also when we tend to see an increase in serious collisions. “The digital display truck gives us a new, highly visible way to reach riders with simple but vital safety messages. Our aim isn’t to spoil anyone’s fun – it’s to help make sure everyone gets home safely. “This Sunday’s activity marks the launch of our wider engagement plan with the motorcycle community for the busy summer months ahead”. Enjoy the ride, enjoy the scenery, and let’s work together to ensure every rider and every road user gets home safely this weekend and throughout the season.
